Brentwood Home Page news reports
The holidays don't necessarily mean a break for area high school basketball teams -- well, unless you count the Ravenwood girls team taking a trip to Florida next week.

Ravenwood's boys made the finals of a Memphis tournament Wednesday, played in a Hendersonville classic last weekend, and head up Franklin Road for the Overton Christmas Tournament on Monday.

The Brentwood High boys play in a tourney at Hickman County next week after competing in the Holiday Shootout at Ensworth earlier this week and a classic at Mt. Juliet last weekend. The Lady Bruins, now 9-1, also played in the Mt. Juliet event and go to the Beech tournament next week.

Brentwood Academy's teams both traveled to a Memphis tournament this week, following the Hendersonville classic last weekend.

"It’s always good if you can get away for a tournament," Lady Raptors Coach Ron Brock said earlier about the team's trip to the Sunshine State. "There is a lot to be learned about your team and how to represent your school and community."

Here is a roundup of recent results and what's ahead for the BA, BHS and RHS teams:

Ravenwood

Boys: The Raptors (9-4) open play against Westwood at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Overton tournament after finishing as runner-up Wednesday in the Holiday Hoops Invitational in Memphis.

RHS trailed by only two when Southaven missed two free throws with 19.9 seconds left, but the Chargers stole the ball and hit a 3-pointer on the buzzer to win 65-60.  RHS had made three 3-pointers in the game's final two minutes, and Evan Forhetz finished with 12 points, Devin Robinson 11 and Sam Wilcox 10.

Ravenwood won its first two games at the tournament, beating Allatoona (Ga.) 59-43  Monday and host St. Benedict at Auburndale 67-52 Tuesday.

Robinson, Wilcox and Riley Stoner all chipped in with 14 points and Robert Veal added 10 against SBA in the semifinals. Robinson had 17 points and Forhetz scored 15 in the win over Allatoona.

The Raptors split a pair in the Regeina Lewis Commando Classic last weekend, beating Station Camp 57-52 on Saturday behind 24 from Robinson and 10 from Forhetz. RHS lost 56-48 Friday to host Hendersonville, which they defeated 69-60 in the season-opener. Forhetz scored 16 and Robinson and Veal had 10 apiece in the loss.

Girls: The Lady Raptors are heading to Florida to play in the Hernando Holiday Tournament Tuesday-Thursday.

Ravenwood, led by 15 points from Jayne Rice and 13 from Erin Lauderdale, outlasted host Hendersonville 45-35 in the Regeina Lewis Commando Classic last Friday. The Lady Raptors jumped out to a 17-2 first-quarter lead.

They return home for a double-header against Oakland starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Brentwood High

Boys: After winning their first seven games and starting off 9-1, the BHS boys team has lost three of their last four heading into the Above the Rim tournament Monday-Wednesday at Hickman County. Monday's game is at 2 p.m. against Northeast.

Jack Montague scored 13 against CPA, and Montague had 15 points and James Cox 14 against EHS, which has several players from its Division II football state championship team.

Brentwood held off Clarksville in the opening game at Ensworth 59-57, with Cox's 15 points leading the way. Cody Shelton scored 13, and Will Joiner and Montague each had 11.

Last weekend the Bruins split two games at the Bear Classic, with Montague's shot with 4 seconds left edging host Mount Juliet 51-50 on Friday. But Brentwood, whose only previous lost had been at Overton, lost Saturday to Blackman 53-40 with Montague scoring 15 and Joiner 12 in the loss.
