Dec. 16

The Splendor of Christmas: As part of a three-week concert series, Forest Hills United Methodist Church, located at 1250 Old Hickory Boulevard, will present “The Splendor of Christmas.” Bob McLeary, director of music ministries, will direct. The caroling performances will include “choirs, hand bells and strings” in the church’s sanctuary on Dec. 16 and 20 during the 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services. For information, visit www.foresthillsumc.org or call 615-373-3131.

Service of Healing and Hope: While the Season of Advent and Christmas reminds us of God’s presence in the world, it can be a painful and difficult time for many people. Those who have lost loved ones, been through a divorce, or experienced some other kind of loss, may find the holidays a time of grief and hurt.  For others the holiday season is so busy that it allows little space for quiet reflection and spiritual nourishment.  This service of prayer and healing at 6:30 pm in the Brentwood UMC Sanctuary offers a time of quiet hope and peace during an otherwise tumultuous time.  309 Franklin Road, Brentwood.

Dec. 20
Children’s Christmas Pageant: Children at East Brentwood Presbyterian Church, located at 9000 Concord Road, will perform in the annual “Children’s Christmas Pageant.” The pageant will include a musical and nativity parade on Sunday, December 20 at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Christmas Breakfast: At the Church of the Good Shepherd, Sunday Dec. 20 will be a busy morning of Christmas activities. At 9:00 a.m. folks can gather for a special Christmas Breakfast in place of the regular services. Following the breakfast, a special program called “Advent Festival of Lessons and Carols” will take place at 10:30 a.m.

Dec. 21
Holiday Basketball camps: Brentwood Academy  is sponsoring camps for boys and girls ages 5 - 14 on Dec. 21 - 22 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.  The boys will be in the Upper School gym; the girls will be in the Middle School gym.  Cost is $50 if registered by Dec. 10 and $70 after Dec. 10.  For information, contact Mike Vazquez (Mike_Vazquez@brentwoodacademy.com) or visit www.brentwoodacademy.com.

Holiday Camp for Kids: It’s the most wonderful time of the year, especially for kids enjoying a long winter break from school. For parents seeking daycare options, the Maryland Farms YMCA and Carol and Roy Elam Family Center, located at 5101 Maryland Farms Way, will provide a “Holiday Camp for Kids” at a price of $20 for members and $25 for non-members per day. Dates and times for the camp are December 21-24, December 28-31 and January 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Children ages 6-12 can participate in games, arts and crafts, swimming and should bring their own snacks and lunch. Meet Santa Claus: The jolly ole elf will make an appearance at Red Mountain Bank , 157 Franklin Road, between 2 and 4 p.m. Everyone's invited to make their lists, bring the kids and enjoy the fun.

Holiday Hike at Owl’s Hill: Winter shouldn’t mean hibernating indoors until the first ray of sun peaks through the window next spring. Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary, located at 545 Beech Creek Road, invites the community to get active, burn off those holiday treats, and join in a “Holiday Hike” on Dec. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the gate for the trek ending at the Gathering Pavilion, where steaming hot chocolate and a marshmallow roast awaits the group.
