Brentwood Home Page news reports It will be a weekend of theatre, when the Brentwood Academy Fine Arts presents Holes, a theatre production featuring BA middle school students. The drama will have a three-performance run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Brentwood Academy Theatre.
As it did in the Newberry award winning novel and later in the 2003 Disney film adaptation, Holes will have audiences digging deeper into this story that deals with themes of good vs. evil, right and wrong and the power of friendship.
When a judge sentences an innocent Stanley Yelnats (Brandon Black) to Camp GreenLake, Stanley soon learns the camp’s condition is far from green and there’s certainly no lake. He and the other inmate boys spend their days digging holes in the hot, Texas heat as a “character building experience.” Little do they know that they are actually doing the Warden’s (Maddie Jarrard) dirty work for her—digging to unearth the loot buried a century ago by the infamous outlaw, Kissin’ Kate Barlow (Jessica Byers).
The boys of Camp Green Lake are played by Thomas Meadow, Madison Reynolds, Andrew Comegna, Tre Stewart, and Brooks Howard.
Directed by Brentwood Academy faculty member Ryan Hubbard, the play is filled with flashback scenes from the 1800’s, which help to tell the story behind the curse of the Yelnats family, begun by Stanley’s “no good, dirty rotten, pig stealin’, great-great grandfather.”
Complete with adventure, outlaws, villains, romance, forbidden love and mystery, Brentwood Academy’s production of Holes will touch the hearts of audience members of all ages.
Thursday and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. Reserved seats are $12 for Saturday and Sunday performances; $8 general admission. To order tickets or for more information, click here.
