I’m a huge believer in fate. And that God puts you in places for a reason. So I don’t think it is a coincidence that I was awakened early Saturday morning to the sound of sound checks for the 30th annual Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Christmas parade.

Opening the drapes in our 11th floor Hyatt hotel room, I looked down and saw the big white and green sign marking the starting point of the parade adhered to the asphalt of Peachtree Street.

Peering a block west was a huge marching band and Rudolph billowing in the wind. Lined up on a parallel street being used as a staging area were at least a dozen other inflated characters waiting their turn to delight an estimated crowd of 300,000 lining the route.

Since my last BrentWord was dedicated to the idea that it’s time for Brentwood to have its own Christmas parade (click here), it seemed just too perfect. I smiled down on the scene, took pictures and video and started dreaming of one here. Since my column was first posted last Wednesday I’ve been called a troublemaker by more than one person. But I’ve also gotten lots of emails of support and offers to volunteer to help make it happen.

Let’s get through this Christmas then start the discussion. Unless a corporate sponsor wants to get the ball going now, in which case feel free to call!

What else is new around town? Lots, but you’ll have to check back later for updates.
