GOOD NEWS: Lost rescue dog Mickey safe, almost sound | Mickey, lost dog, Westie Rescue Southeast, Brentwood tn news, dogs

Mickey, safe and sound, rests at his foster home on Sunday.

Brentwood Home Page news report
Mickey, the little rescue dog who broke free of his leash on June 11 and ran into the woods in the Belle Rive area, has been found. Members of the Westie Rescue Southeast have desperately been searching for him since that time. The small, white dog is frightened of people. Before he was rescued, he was abused. He came into rescue with no hair and because of a skin condition was not wearing a collar when he broke free.

“It has truly been a good Sunday,” Barb Ott of Lawrenceburg, Mickey’s foster mom said. “Mickey is home. Thanks to everyone's prayers, everyone's searching efforts, Mickey came home last night.”

The Brentwood Police Department’s emergency dispatch had informed members of the rescue organization that Mickey had been seen in the Maryland Farms area. On Saturday, rescue volunteers saw him hanging out where he had been spotted previously but were unable to lure him out of the woods.

"I headed out to join the search, at 10:30 pm.,” Ott said. She arrived after midnight. After walking the tree line without any success, she was on the phone with another volunteer about 12:45 when she saw a small white shadow emerge from the woods.

It took a lot of coaxing but Ott didn't give up. After three treats, she was able to slip on his leash. "Then he let me rub on him, petting him, and he wiggled his tail… When I put him into his crate in the car, he actually seemed relieved to be caught.”

Mickey will need some love and care, Ott said, who reports the little dog was covered in ticks and has lost weight.

“He has some cuts and bruises, and has a slight limp but otherwise seems none the worse for the wear,” Ott said. “We will be heading to the vet on Monday.”

When he disappeared, Mickey was about a week from being ready to be adopted. The timetable now is unknown, but Ott said for now, everyone is just celebrating his recovery.

“Mickey had friends all over the world rooting for him," Ott said. A Facebook page set up after he was lost had so many “Friend” requests, it was alerted as spam and disabled to accept friends for two days.

“There is no doubt the prayers and good thoughts from all of these friends and friends of friends helped bring him home,” Ott said.
