Well, it never came. I waited and waited by my mailbox for days (hence, no new column) for my personal invite to the Royal Wedding. Looks like I’m just going to have to wake up at 4 a.m. with the rest of the world and watch it on TV.
Or, I can plan to make a real party out of it, which will be even easier after next Wednesday. See Mary Weary, owner of Menu Maker Catering, is giving a free seminar on planning a wedding reception, from “site selection and timelines, to menu development and budgeting.“ Since I have two boys, my royal reception might be the closest I’ll ever come to throwing a real one.
The seminar starts at 6 p.m. Check out the library’s website for details and to register.
Speaking of the library, mark your calendars now to attend the annual “Evening with the Authors,” the Brentwood Library Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year. It’s going to be April 14 at Dave and Sharon Ramsey’s house. Yes, that Dave Ramsey.
This year’s authors are Denise Hildreth Jones (Savannah from Savannah and Hurricanes in Paradise); Susan Gregg Gilmore(The Improper Life of Bezellia Grove and Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen), and Ken Abraham (Magnificent Desolation: the Long Journey Home from the Moon and Let’s Roll!).
Not sure how much the tickets will be yet, but I do know that a cocktail supper catered by Whole Foods’ Cool Springs store is included. Go ahead and start putting some cash in that “library fund” envelope today.
And did you hear that the foundation has already found at least one of its 2012 authors? I hear she’s a great up-and-coming writer who hopes to get a publishing deal any day. Her working title is From the Outside In: Reporting on the Royal Wedding from Across the Pond.
Speaking of literary events and cocktails -- two of my favorite things -- Barbara Nowak, one of the Saucy Sisters, is co-host of the Literacy Council of Williamson County’s silver anniversary celebration, a wine tasting coming up on March 5. And if I’m invited, you’re invited. Unlike that old royal wedding, this is a public party (well, if you make a $25 donation that is).
This one’s being held at Mary and Stan Kantanie’s Brentwood home from 5 to 7 p.m., but guests will take a shuttle from Forest Hills United Methodist Church, at 1250 Old Hickory Boulevard.
Tickets can be purchased at www.LiteracyCouncilWC.org or by calling 615-807-1743. Tell them Brentwood Home Page sent you. |
