By KERRI BARTLETT For Brentwood Home Page Looking for an extra oak bookshelf, decorative plant … or a 2-ton truck for your hauling pleasure? Visit the Williamson County public and online auctions, and you just might get your aesthetic and industrial needs met.
Surveillance system, seized vehicle, sheriff patrol car, 6-burner stove … going once, going twice … are examples of several items up for bid at the Williamson County Surplus Auction held at a warehouse in Franklin located on 306 Beasley Dr. early next month.
At last week's Brentwood City Commission meeting, commissioners authorized the sale and disposal of the city’s surplus property, which will result in auctioning the items to the public. Under state law, surplus items must be disposed of by sealed bids or at publicly advertised auctions, including online auctions, unless transferred or donated to another government.
The city will use the online auction, govdeals.com, to post large items such as vehicles and equipment. The Williamson County public auction, starting at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1, will showcase vehicles and cafeteria and office equipment from the surplus items obtained from Brentwood, the school system and the county government offices.
Also, Brentwood will be a generous neighbor by donating five Dell server racks to the Williamson County government office.
“The public auction always has a big turnout. In my years of doing this, I have only seen one thing not sell, which was a broken water fountain,” City Treasurer Karen Harper said. “There seems to be people in the market for these items.”
Williamson County Purchasing Agent Leslie Mitchell agreed.
“I think the public enjoys the auctions as much as we do. I see the same people there every year,” Mitchell said.
Items are categorized in separate stations at the auction to ensure that all profits go toward the designated city or county government entity from which the items came.
Gary Realty and Auction is contracted to manage the auction.
