BHS, BA hope to rebound from early-season roadblocks

Brentwood Home Page news reports
Ravenwood's girls soccer team is undefeated heading into district play this week, while Brentwood has hit some bumps already early in the season including its 11-AAA opener. In Division II-AA, Brentwood Academy got in the win column with its first region game.

Here's a look at recent results and upcoming games for BHS, RHS and BA:

Ravenwood High

Ravenwood's girls soccer team, a state semifinalist last year, is 2-0 on the season and had last week off before two home games scheduled for this week.

The Lady Raptors' home game scheduled Tuesday against Riverdale has been postponed by weather until Oct. 10, but RHS will host Independence (3-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday in its District 11-AAA opener.

Ravenwood doesn't play its first away match until next Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Siegel. The Lady Raptors then have big back-to-back district games at unbeaten Franklin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, and at rival Brentwood at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Eleanor Leffler netted a hat trick in a 13-0 rout of Ezell-Harding in the Lady Raptors' last game Aug. 25.  Hailey Leonard, Christina Lowder and Maggie Pope each scored two goals, while Emma Rose had four assists. In it season-opener, RHS defeated Brentwood Academy 5-1.

Brentwood High

The Lady Bruins are 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in District 11-AAA heading into Tuesday's scheduled home game with district foe Centennial, which is postponed by weather -- possibly until Wednesday at 7 p.m. BHS then has a week off before visiting Hillsboro on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Brentwood then steps outside the district for a game at Oakland on Thursday, Sept. 15, before the season's Battle of the Woods against visiting Ravenwood on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Brentwood dropped a 2-1 non-district game last Tuesday against Pope John Paul II despite taking a 1-0 halftime lead and defeating JPII in the preseason. JPII's only loss, however, is to Franklin, the only team to shut them out.

The Lady Bruins then lost 7-1 at home to Franklin (4-0, 1-0) in Thursday's District 11-AAA opener, falling behind 3-0 in the first half. Meg Howard scored Brentwood's lone goal, the only one given up by the Lady Rebels and keeper Emily Burchfield this season.

Brentwood Academy

Brentwood Academy (1-3, 1-0) notched its first win Thursday at II-AA East/Middle Region opponent Harpeth Hall, 4-3. The Lady Eagles have a region game at home at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against Father Ryan.

BA trailed Ravenwood only 2-1 at halftime before falling 5-1 in the season-opener, with Caylyn Harvey scoring the Eagles' goal. One of Brentwood Academy's other losses is also to a Division I-AAA school, Siegel, and only by a 2-1 score.

The Lady Eagles also play both games next week against Class AAA teams Independence and Columbia.
