Rector returns to prep ranks after stint at WKU Brentwood Home Page news reports Brian Rector, who led the Ravenwood Raptors to a state championship in 2005, is leaving Western Kentucky University and heading back to Williamson County according to Tennesssean prep writer Maurice Patton.
Rector served as the Raptors’ head football coach for seven seasons and posted an overall record of 43-22, which also included a return appearance in the 2006 state championship game.
Rector, a Kentucky native, earned Tennessee coach of the year honors by the Tennessee State Writers Association in 2005.His 2008 team beat Brentwood Academy in 2008, making Ravenwood the first public school in Williamson County to defeat BA in 31 years.
Earlier this week, Ravenwood announced that Del Smith, head coach at The Blue Ridge School near Charlottesville, Va. had been hired as its new head coach. He replaces Tom Shuman who held the post for two years and had been Rector’s offensive coordinator.
Rector left Ravenwood to be a graduate assistant for offense at WKU. Prior to joining Ravenwood, he was defensive coordinator at Oldham County High School in Buckner, Ky. and a varsity assistant/freshman and JV coach at Daviess County High School in Owensboro, Ky.
Rector holds a Bachelor of Arts in History/Secondary Education from Bellarmine University and a Masters in Secondary Education from WKU.
