Race helps Y meet community needs
Brentwood Home Page news reports Registration is now open for the Maryland Farms YMCA's Cadillac Firecracker 5K on Monday, July 4.
Hundreds of people will kick off their Fourth of July with a running start in the annual race. The flat race course has made the race a favorite with local runners who pound the pavement for a good cause.
The race, sponsored by Andrews Cadillac and Luken Investment Group, benefits the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. The fundraiser keep the Y’s health and wellness resources available to all by providing financial assistance to those who could not otherwise afford the full cost of a membership. Proceeds also help to fund the Y’s community outreach programs, like After Breast Cancer (ABC).
Offered free of charge, ABC pairs breast cancer survivors with a Pink Ribbon-certified trainer and nutritionist to help them regain strength and range of motion after treatment. The Y also helps to give local teens a second chance to succeed and avoid the mistakes of their past through Williamson County Y-CAP, which operates in partnership with the Alternative Learning Center.
The 5K will be followed by a one-mile fun run for kids under 12 — the Luken Kids’ Race. Prizes will be awarded in both the 5K and the kids’ race.
Register at the Maryland Farms Y or at www.active.com. Pre-registration is $25. Race day registration will be available for $35.
Race time is 7 a.m. on July 4, with the kids race at 8 a.m. at the Maryland Farms Y, 5101 Maryland Way.
