5 more Bruins, 3 Raptors named to All-District football team

Brentwood Home Page news reports
Brentwood High senior Chudi Echetebu, a running back-linebacker who helped lead the Bruins to the Class 6A quarterfinals this season, has been named District 11-AAA Player of the Year.

Echetebu also played on the winning West team, coached by Ron Crawford of BHS, this past weekend in the 5th annual Toyota East vs. West All-Star Classic in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Five other Brentwood players – Austin Sanders, Nicholas Coffey, Jacob Poag, Truett Harris and Adam Thetford – also made All-District.

Ravenwood’s Cam Brown, Anthony Jones and Tevin Hill also were chosen to the All-District 11-AAA team.

Echetebu, playing on defense, blocked a punt and had four solo tackles, three assists and a pass breakup in the East-West All-Star Game on Saturday at Carson-Newman. The West rallied from a 14-7 halftime deficit to win 20-14.

Chist Presbyterian’s Hunter Thurley was outstanding as a defensive end and in on several plays including a quarterback pressure, Crawford said. CPA teammate Sam Cranford was banged up a bit but did get some time at receiver, the BHS coach added.

And Brentwood Academy lineman Woody Baron, already committed to Virginia Tech, did a great job playing on the D-line, Crawford added.

“All three are great kids, were very personable and coachable,” Crawford said about the CPA and BA players on his squad. “It was a pleasure to spend the week with them.”

Battle Ground Academy quarterback C.J. Beathard, an Ole Miss recruit, threw second-half touchdown passes of 27 and 30 yards to Columbia’s Eric Belew. Beathard finished with 145 yards in the air on 14 of 20 passing, while Blew was the West Offensive MVP.

The West fell behind on two TD runs by Blackman’s Mr. Football I’Tavius Mathews, also an Ole Miss commit. But Jacob Tucker scored on a 21-yard return of a blocked punt 4:37 before halftime.

McGavock’s Caleb Azubike made a game-record 17 tackles and had a sack and tackle for loss, earning the West Defensive MVP.

East running back Dy’Shawn Mobley set a game-record 118 yards rushing on 26 carries and was named East Offensive MVP. Smyrna’s Brandon Hathaway was the East Defensive MVP.
