Not to belabor the point, but we really would like reader feedback on how Brentwood Home Page should grow in coming months.

We’re brainstorming several new column and coverage ideas here at the home office and would love your input. We don’t want to duplicate what you can get elsewhere, but what about if we can make what’s done elsewhere totally Brentwood?

We’re contemplating a wine column and maybe a restaurant review. There’s a definite style to Brentwood, for both men and women. How should we capture that? Everyone eats, but do you cook? Would you like to know how to prepare what’s fresh at the market or in the CSA box this week? What about kids or pets?

How about our story mix? Are there topics we’re totally missing?

We’re also working on a written policy regarding reader comments to our stories and columns. We are researching those already established by other websites and newspapers. We’d love your thoughts on that subject as well. Should we limit length? Require the writer’s name be published? Post them as they are submitted and let readers self-police them?

As Brentwood Home Page grows, we value and will solicit your opinions more and more. From the onset, our goal has remained the same: to be the most professional, credible and independent news and information source for Brentwood available. We hope we’ve already made big strides to meet those goals.

But if you have suggestions on how we can continue to grow, don’t hesitate to let us know. Just email news@brentwoodhomepage – the same address you can use to answer any and all of the questions above!

Latest Ravenwood grads make all proud
Wow. The good news about our graduating seniors just keeps on coming.

Earlier this week I shared stats on Brentwood High’s graduating class that were announced at its commencement exercises Sunday.

On Monday I asked Ravenwood’s principal, Dr. Pam Vaden, to share the scoop on her 420 newest alumni. Here goes:
  • In the Top 10 Percent of graduates (43), the average ACT score was 31
  • Their Cum GPA as 4.394
  • The average ACT score for the entire class was 24.67
  • The average Cum GPA was 3.46
  • The graduates will attend 103 different universities, colleges or school.
  • In 28 states and Canada
  • The RHS Class of 2010 was offered a total of $13 million in scholarships.
  • Class members accepted $6 million of that.
If you know a local graduate, be sure to shake their hand next time you see them. They deserve it.

I learned about a new website Tuesday that could be a tremendous service to those still looking for help with flood damage and those still looking to help. And according to Susan Thornton of Brentwood, who is helping to coordinate the effort, there are still a lot of people – especially outside of Davidson County – who continue to have wet houses and huge needs.

www.TNrelief.org is designed to be a clearinghouse of information that will help facilitate recovery across Tennessee.
We’ll share more details as we get them, but in the meantime, please check out the site and take part if you can.

I love the restaurant review idea. Like your business spotlights, it would be great if you could build up an archive of reviews for readers to reference when they're looking for something. I'd love to see both of these features (business and restaurant reviews) tagged and indexed with some sort of search widgit as well so that I can sort through the older material in a more directed fashion.

In general I think your story mix is pretty good. There's a bit more coverage of highschool sports than a person who's never had a child in the local highschools might care about, but I do like seeing all of the individual accolades. I really like your coverage of the various city planning meetings. I think you've done some campaign and election coverage for state and local politics in the past, and hope you will continue that. Letting us know where we can go to meet candidates, carrying their position statements and covering election outcomes would all be helpful.

A calendar section with various scheduled events might be useful as well. Especially if its fairly easy for organizers to add the events themselves.

I think comments should be signed, but perhaps you could have some sort of option that would allow a writer to route the post to an editor with the reason the author might want their name suppressed, so that exceptions can be handled.
