Direct Buy has been in Cool Springs for 10 years, but co-owner Steve Blume said he is still amazed at the skeptics who have bizarre ideas of what it is, how it works or how much it costs if they do not know any members.”We’ve heard it all.”

In a nutshell, Direct Buy is a home improvement and furnishings club. Its members buy everything from building materials to furniture to faucets with no retail markup. It’s that simple.

 “Since we do not mark up merchandise, we are supported by members paying dues, which range from hundreds of dollars to several thousand, depending on the type and length of membership selected. Members understand that you can pay a little to save a lot,” Blume explains, “and it is pretty easy to do the math.”

But while Direct Buy is best known for selling products related to home building, renovation and improvement, members also can shop for items as diverse as electronics, jewelry and baby gear.

 “Most people think they are savvy shoppers, but they don’t know what things really cost. A person buying home furnishings, doing a kitchen or bath remodel, replacing windows and doors, building a home, or even just replacing flooring is throwing away literally thousands of dollars in retail markups,” Blume says.

“We make some pretty large savings claims, but our Better Business Bureau rating of A+ is proof we deliver on them. If someone will take the time to visit and let us show them exact price comparisons on the things they plan to purchase, they will understand how much they can save and how they can buy much better things.

DirectBuy was founded in 1971 and is celebrating its 40-year anniversary this year. DirectBuy of Cool Springs opened in 2002. The Middle Tennessee franchise has about 4000 local members.
