Dr. Awadh Binhazim

Brentwood Home Page news reports
Dr. Awadh Binhazim, who has been on a mission to demystify the Muslim religion for non-Muslim Americans, will bring his presentation, "Islam 101: Removing the Phobia," to the Williamson County Democratic Party's potluck dinner Thursday, Nov. 3.

The monthly potluck is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. at WCDP headquarters, 112 E. Fowlkes Street, off Columbia Avenue and five blocks south of Five Points, in downtown Franklin. Guests are invited to bring a dish, but it is not necessary.  Children are welcome.

Dr. Binhazim is a professor of pathology at Meharry Medical College, and he is Muslim chaplain at Vanderbilt University.  He founded Olive Tree Education, an Islamic community outreach program, and he serves on the board of the Islamic Center of Tennessee, which this year renovated and moved into a former movie theater in the Hickory Hollow area.

The WCDP has a monthly potluck dinner meeting the first Thursday of every month and holds Coffee Klatch, an informal discussion of issues, every Saturday morning. Make It Blue Monday is held the second Monday of every month at Kimbro's Café in Franklin. The WCDP also includes WC Young Democrats, WC Democratic Women and WC Democratic Veterans Council.  All meetings are open to the public.

The WCDP and Williamson County Democratic Veterans Council accept clothing donations for homeless veterans every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at party headquarters. Work clothes are especially needed, but all clothing donations for men and women are appreciated. Clothing donations are turned over to Operation Stand Down Nashville.

The Democratic Veterans are also collecting Cell Phones for Soldiers from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays.  Bring your old cell phones, and they will be reconditioned as prepaid phones which will be sent to deployed U.S. military so that they can call home.

Other community service by the Williamson County Democratic Party includes Feed Franklin First; Adopt-a-Highway; Town Hall Meetings on current topics; Red Cross blood donor drives; voter registration drives; maintenance of voter resources on WCDP web site, and fund-raising to benefit other Williamson County non-profit organizations.
