Don’t worry: Lions, tigers and bears have nothing to do with the Brentwood City Commission’s expected passage tonight of an ordinance amending city code regulations governing animals. The ordinance before the city isn’t a knee-jerk reaction to last week’s headlines about exotic animals on the loose from an Ohio farm.

Instead, the city is working to bring its requirements more in line with Williamson County regulations at the request of County Mayor Rogers Anderson. Most refer to dogs and cats, though other animals are mentioned throughout the document. It does offer city residents a good opportunity to review what the city and county do and don’t allow, and what they consider the proper treatment of animals, as well as leash laws. In other business expected to come before the commission, when it meets at 7 p.m. in the Brentwood Municipal Building, 5211 Maryland Way:

Three resolutions that will start work outlined in the approved master plan for the city’s new Marcella Vivrette Smith Park. They include authorization to apply for grant funding for hiking trail improvements, grant funding for loop trail improvements, and an agreement with Gresham Smith & Partners for Phase 1 engineering design services.

The board will also vote on a resolution to authorize an agreement with Polaris Library Systems for an integrated Library System. The city budget’s Capital Projects Fund provides $150,000 for replacement of the library’s computer operating system which manages al library information and database functions including cataloging, circulation and data base functions.

Under the consent agenda, the commission is expected to approve the purpose of a single-axle dump truck for the Public Works Department.

The full agenda and related documents can be viewed online at the city’s website. Click here.
