Unless someone says something totally unexpected during tonight’s third and final series of public hearings on the city’s 2011-12 fiscal year budget, property tax rate or Capital Improvements Program, all are expected to pass on second and final reading at the Bentwood City Commission meeting.

Before the second and final vote, however, the allocation of $225,000 to public schools that primarily serve Brentwood resident students; the allocation of $87,000 in the Parks and Recreation Department budget to specific recreation service providers, and any adjustment to the City Manager's salary must be determined by the City Commission and approved.

Last year’s funding for education was allocated as follows: Brentwood and Ravenwood high schools ($60,000 each), Brentwood, Sunset and Woodland middle schools ($15,000 each), and Crockett, Edmondson, Kenrose, Lipscomb, Scales and Sunset elementary schools ($10,000 each). The high school allocations will be directed to each school’s PTO organizations in order to eliminate any confusion on the accounting and control of the funds by Williamson County Schools’ central office.

During the current fiscal year, the following recreation service groups received allocations, FiftyForward Martin Center ($45,000); Brentwood Civitan Club ($20,000); YMCA ($12,000) and the Brentwood Blaze ($10,000).

In other business, the commission will:

Vote to approve two additional outdoor early warning sirens. City staff has recommended that one be installed in Tower Park, the other in the Franklin Road south area near Moores Lane. The cost of this siren would be shared with the City of Franklin.

Vote to approve the donation of surplus police vehicles to smaller police departments with more limited resources.

Appoint one member to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Eight individuals have applied for the seat previously head by Wayne Arnold who was recently appointed to the city’s planning commission. They are Donald Fischer, Lynn Hammond, Hilary Kahnle, Brenda Lehman, Todd Lockhart, Devin McClendon, Daniel Owczarski and Simon Riss.

The full agenda, as well as supporting materials, are available at the city’s website by clicking here.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the second floor board room of the Brentwood Municipal Center, 5211 Maryland Way. A Beer Board meeting will precede the meeting at 6:45 p.m. Satay Thai Grill & B.B.Q., 1190A Franklin Road, has applied for an on-premises permit.
