Both teams came fired up to play bringing on an early rash of penalties with three in the first two minutes.
When the battle was over, the Bruins were victors, leaving the Ravenwood campus with a 27-7 win.
The Raptors took possession first but were quick to turn it over to BHS. A personal foul put the Bruins on the 16-yard line after a long drive utilizing the running game of Josh Killett, Houston Brown and Jake Gallardo. The Bruins chipped away at the Raptor defense and scored on their first possession. The extra point made the score 7-0 Bruins.
“We were mentally prepared. After the practices we had this week, we thought we were ready,” said BHS head coach Ron Crawford.
On Ravenwood’s next possession, Leyrer had a good 28-yard run but the Raptors suffered a delay of game penalty. Bruins’ #3 Ethan Stanley, created a turnover with a pass interception on the 48-yard line. The Bruins ended the quarter with this possession but

were held to a field goal at the top of the second quarter.
“We had a solid first half,” said Crawford. “Our guys had great coverage on the deep ball especially that 80 yard play.”
After trading the ball back and forth, the Raptors took over the ball at the midpoint of the second quarter. They would capitalize on a long pass from Leyrer to Riley Stoner from the 36 yard line to the Bruins 8 yard line. Leyrer had a 2 yard carry in for a touchdown and the extra point by Giangrecco brought the score to 10-7.
The Raptor defensive combination of Ryan Bednar and Greco kept the Bruins from fully capitalizing on their next drive. The Bruins next drive would again be held to a field goal bringing the score to 13-7 with 2:08 left to play in the half.
Chudi Echetebu reflected this is the most important game of the season before Franklin. Echetebu and Cameron Greco battled throughout the night.
“Greco is a linebacker and I met him a lot out there. He’s a good player and I give him a lot of credit,” said Echetebu. “A lot of guys stepped up tonight for us (BHS). Jonathan Regan came in and Truett Harris came in for Josh Killett and really stepped up. Devon Cole was another one.”
The Raptors took possession but were three and out after a great tackle on 4th and 14 by Tyson Ashcrafts on an Andrew Leonard carry.
The Bruins regained the ball with only 1:09 left to play. After a series of completed passes, the Bruins’ Killett leapt for the ball in the back of the endzone. With the extra point, the Bruins went in to halftime with the score of 20-7.
Ian Walters played an important role in the last minute efforts for a touchdown to end the second half.
“That series was really important at the end of the half,” said Walters. “They (RHS) were still in the game at that point. We weren’t

flat or anything but they were still in it. It fired us up and gave us momentum going in to halftime.”
The Bruins would score one more time in the second half after a series of great runs by Echetebu. But it would be quarterback Webber who would run it in on the keep for the touchdown with 5:52 left in the third quarter.
Webber’s luck would run out the second half with two interceptions. Bednar would make an interception near the end zone when Webber threw on the run from the 21 yard line with 44 seconds left in the third quarter.
Shortly after, Webber would throw his second interception in to Ravenwood hands with 9:08 left in the game.
“It’s important to be consistent,” said Crawford. “We made some mistakes the second half. Clay was trying to make a play and we’d rather not make those mistakes.”
When asked if he thought they had dominated the offense, he answered, “Chudi Echetebu had a great game. Jake Gallardo and Clay too ran a solid game.”
“He’s a real consistent football player and when you play consistent, the big plays will come,” said Crawford about Jason Springer. “He can run, block, defensive back. He’s consistent and that’s what we want.”
Brentwood has homecoming week starting Monday leading up to their game againt Gallatin High School.
“Homecoming is a lot of fun for the students and for us,” said Walters. “We will have a good non-district game. We always play each other tough.”
