Lady Bruins also unbeaten atop district; Raptors teams both lose at Franklin

Brentwood Home Page news reports
The Brentwood High boys team reeled off its 11th straight win Tuesday night, and both the Bruins and Lady Bruins squads remained the only teams undefeated in District 11-AAA action.

The BHS victories set the stage for Friday’s first Battle of the Woods double-header of the basketball season, at Ravenwood.

Brentwood 83, Centennial 67, boys

Jack Montague, the Bruins point guard committed to Yale University, poured in 23 points on the road at Centennial to keep Brentwood atop the 11-AAA standings.

Cole Harrison added 15 points, and Cody Shelton and Will Jones chipped in 11 points apiece for BHS (17-4, 4-0). Shelton, Montague, Asa Duvall and Gates Gustafson each connected from behind the 3-point arc.

Matt Pond had a game-high 28 points for the Cougars (7-12, 0-5). Brentwood will travel to rival Ravenwood for Friday night’s game at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Brentwood 70, Centennial 45, girls

The Brentwood girls remained the only unbeaten team in District 11-AAA team with a 70-45 victory at Centennial, led by junior guard Paige Parker’s 21 points.

Parker hit four of eight 3-point baskets scored by the Lady Bruins (16-2, 4-0), who visit Ravenwood on Friday night.

Halle Jarnagin added 10 points, and Marissa Anthony sank a pair of 3s. Paige Hood and Olivia Shealy also each had a trey. Centennial fell to 4-16, 0-5 in the district.

Franklin 66, Ravenwood 57, boys

The Raptors (13-4, 2-2) suffered their second straight road defeat in the district, falling to Franklin despite getting 18 points from guard Devin Robinson and 17 from post player Joey Barnes.

Ravenwood actually led 16-11 after one quarter and 29-23 at halftime, but the Rebels outscored RHS 17-6 in the third quarter. The Raptors let Friday night’s game at Independence get away from them in the final quarter.

Franklin (8-11, 2-3) got 22 points from Kyle Tackett, who bucketed a pair of 3-pointers. Andy Moore hit two long-range baskets and Mike McAllister also had a 3 for Ravenwood, which hosts league-leading Brentwood on Friday.

Franklin 60, Ravenwood 52, girls

Lexi McKay scored 25 points for the Lady Raptors, but it wasn’t enough to offset a strong performance by host Franklin (12-8, 3-2).

Ravenwood (11-6, 2-2) now plays rival and district leader Brentwood in a home game on Friday, with a 6 p.m. tipoff.

Mackenzie Puckett led the Lady Rebels with 21 points. Jayne Rice added 11 for RHS, and Logan Hodskins scored 10 points including a 3-pointer.
