Brentwood places fifth, Ravenwood sixth
Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood High senior Nicholas Coffey was named co-outstanding wrestler and won his 195-pound weight class at the G.P. West / Bruins Invitational over the weekend.
Teammate Gabe Hamilton also made the finals for host Brentwood, whose fifth-place finish was highest among Middle Tennessee teams in the extremely tough field.
Ravenwood finished just behind Brentwood, with Jacob Freeman and Evan Long winning their consolation finals for third place. The Raptors will have Kyle Kuehnhold back at practice Monday, and are hopeful he’ll be able to wrestle this week against Franklin and Independence.
Brentwood’s Coffey pinned all four of his opponents, including Siegel’s Jacob Schultz in the championship at the 4-minute mark. He was named outstanding wrestler for the upper weight classifications, while Christian Brothers’ Tate Robinson was honored in the lower weight divisions.
The Bruins’ Hamilton fell 19-8 to Kaleb Baker of Christian Brothers in the 145-pound final.
Taylor Warren placed fourth for RHS, while Robin Klingensmith and Rex Shotts took sixth place.
Memphis Christian Brothers, a Division II team ranked No. 1 in the coaches’ state wrestling poll, won the team championship. Defending state champ Cleveland, Top 10 and DIIteam Chattanooga McCallie, and Kentucky champion Union County all finished ahead of the Bruins.
