RHS boys fall out of first, girls win in OT; BA teams split with JPII
Brentwood Home Page news reports The Bruins boys basketball team won its 10th straight and is the only District 11-AAA team unbeaten, capping a sweep by the Brentwood High squads at rival Franklin on Friday night.
The Ravenwood boys dropped their first loss in the district, but the Lady Raptors won a squeaker at Independence. Brentwood Academy teams also split their double-header, with the boys edging Pope John Paul II and the girls losing another close one.

Brentwood 62, Franklin 54, boys
Bruins junior Cody Shelton, a 6-6 forward, returned to form with 17 points against host Franklin after missing most of the season so far with a knee injury.
Senior point guard Jack Montague hit a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for Brentwood (16-4, 3-0). Will Jones had 11 points, Asa Duvall sank a pair of treys, and Shelton added another 3-pointer.
The Bruins trailed the Rebels 26-25 at halftime, but opened up a 44-38 lead after three quarters. Franklin (7-11, 1-3) was led by 12 points from Colson Patton and 11 points from Hunter Nelson including three 3s.
BHS visits Centennial on Tuesday in the third of five consecutive road games, and finishes its first round through the district at Ravenwood next Friday, Jan. 20.
Brentwood 48, Franklin 36, girls
The Lady Bruins also remained atop the 11-AAA standings, allowing host Franklin only 3 points in the fourth period after leading just 35-33 after three quarters.
Junior Paige Parker scored 17 points and sank a pair of 3s, while Halle Jarnagin bucketed 13 points for BHS (15-2, 3-0).
Mackenzie Puckett's 17 points was tops for the Lady Rebels (11-8, 2-2).
Brentwood tips off at Centennial at 6 p.m. for the girls game Tuesday, and will visit Ravenwood starting at 6 p.m. Friday in the season's first Battle of the Woods.
Independence 49, Ravenwood 37, boys
The Raptors fell out of a tie with Brentwood for first place with their first district defeat, getting outscored 25-8 in the final quarter at Independence.
Devin Robinson again led Ravenwood (13-3, 2-1) in scoring, with 18 points including two 3-point baskets. RHS, leading 20-19 at intermission, stretched the advantage to 29-24 at the end of three quarters.
Deion Sims poured in 20 points and hit three times from 3-point range for the Eagles (14-4, 2-1), with Josh Barr adding 11.
The Raptors are at home both Tuesday (vs. Franklin) and Friday (against Brentwood).
Ravenwood 44, Independence 42 (OT) girls
Logan Hodskins had 14 points and Lexi McKay scored 11 to pace the Lady Raptors in the overtime victory at Independence.
Ravenwood (11-5, 2-1) outscored the Lady Eagles by just 4-2 in the extra period. The game was tied after two quarters, Indy led by just 30-28 after the third, and RHS evened it up 40-40 at the end of regulation.
Independence (11-7, 1-2) got 14 points from Rebecca Kerlikowske and 12 from Hannah Winters.
The Lady Raptors have home games with Franklin and district leader BHS next week.
Brentwood Academy 53, Pope John Paul II 50, boys
Tyler Henry led the Eagles with 13 points, while Arizona State football signee Al Thompson sank a trio of treys on his way to 11 points.
It was the second straight region victory for BA (6-8, 2-1). Danny McGrath and Josh Lester each hit a 3-pointer against visiting JPII (11-5, 0-3).
The Eagles don't have another game until next Friday, at Father Ryan, with the boys game around 8 p.m.
Pope John Paul II 48, Brentwood Academy 42, girls
Hailey Pierson had a team-high 16 points and Jai Murphy scored 11 in the home loss for the Lady Eagles.
BA tips off at 6:30 p.m. next Friday, Jan. 20, at Father Ryan.
