Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood High's state championship cross country team finished 17th nationally in Saturday's Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Ore., running under the banner of the Brentwood Cross Country Club.
Senior Paul Stuart and sophomore Alec Thomas both finished in the top 100 in the field of 199 in the boys race. Stuart clocked 16 minutes, 22 seconds for 85th -- good for 46 points for the team. Thomas ran a 16:27 in 97th, scoring 56 points.
Senior Nathan Thomas, Alec's older brother, had a time of 16:34 for 111th and 69 points in team scoring. Taylor Caldwell raced a 16:35 in the 5K, the 115th best individual time for 72 points. Aaron Thomas, Alec's twin brother, also ran a sub-17 with a 16:54 for 155th and 110 points.
Brentwood's top five runners totalled 353 points, with a 16:35 average and an 82:52 total. The top team, Lincroft, averaged 16 minutes per runner and totalled 79:58.
The other two runners for Brentwood were Coleman Churitch (17:27, 181st, 136 points) and Daniel Hamm (17:31, 184th, 139 points).
The top individual time was 15:03.
