Brentwood Home Page news reports A group of Brentwood elementary school boys worked hard over the summer to achieve their goal of winning a regional soccer tournament title for the city of Brentwood.
The group of 8-year-old boys decided to forego their video games in favor of playing soccer in the hot summer weather. Ten boys under the name of the Tennessee Tornadoes endured summer-long practices under the 100-degree heat, traveled long distances and participated in tournaments.
In its inaugural year, the team competed in four different tournaments in three different states. Playing in teams of six, the Tornadoes entered every tournament they could finishing second in the 3v3 Tennessee State Championships which qualified them for the regionals.
On Saturday July 30, the Tennessee Tornadoes were rewarded for their hard work by winning the 3v3 Southeast Championships in Decatur, Ala.
The regional tournament took over nine hours to complete and ran into the night and almost into Sunday morning due to a weather delay. The championship game was played at 11 p.m. in the center’s main stadium arena at Jack Allen Sports Complex. The Brentwood team took the lead and never looked back with a final score of 10-6.
If there were any signs of fatigue after a long day of soccer, you could not see one tired soul when the final whistle blew.
The Tornadoes consist of 10 rising third-graders, all of whom attend elementary schools in Brentwood. They were coached by parent Jeff Miller and Tim McMullen and managed by parent Phil Dang. All of the Tornadoes are members of the Brentwood Soccer Club.
