Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood Soccer Club player Tanner Dieterich recently received a tremendous honor in the youth soccer realm. Tanner was invited to attend the U14 Boys National Team Identification Camp and was offered a position on the U14 Boys National Team.
Tanner’s journey to reach this level of play began at a young age. He grew up tagging along with his father, Father Ryan soccer coach Robin Dieterich, to soccer practices where he would train along side of the older players.
“What has gotten Tanner to this point is the number of hours he puts in,” said Ajit Korgaokar, Tanner’s Brentwood Soccer Club coach. “Tanner has put in thousands more hours than most players.”
Tanner’s opportunities are not only within the United States, but internationally as well. Tanner has also been recommended for a 10-day tryout in Germany with the top professional German Club, FC Koln. He will have the opportunity to make this club’s U14 team.
Tanner plays center back and will make his first appearance with the U14 U.S. National Team in Chula Vista, Calif., over Thanksgiving.
His commitment and drive caused Tanner to excel at the numerous levels of play required to reach the National level.
Tanner was identified by taking part in the Tennessee ODP program (Olympic Developmental Program). ODP was designed to identify the top players in certain age groups that would eventually compete against other state ODP programs to ultimately win a position on the National Team.
Tanner’s fist task was to try out and make his State ODP Team. Once making the team, all players must attend a week-long event over the summer where all the Region III States (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Tennessee) attend and compete against one another. At this event a select staff of coaches evaluates and picks the Region III Pool of players. These players then go on to be chosen for the National Pool Training and eventually the National Team and an opportunity to play for the United States.
In the past, Tanner had been playing up an age group in the ODP program. He still plays up a year for his club, but this year dropped to his own age group for ODP, which is U14, and is the age group has been selected for nationally.
