Malawi mission trip will help African orphans Brentwood Home Page news reports A night of music Saturday will help children in Malawi, Africa orphaned due to the AIDS epidemic there.
Morgan Donaldson will be performing along with Brentwood musicians Ben and Matt Lepper and Josh Brown, dancers from Barefeet Studios in Nashville and Jimmy Allen, a local artist seen on American Idol, at the “Mission Trip for Malawi, Africa” fundraiser. It begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at Columbia State Community College’s Franklin campus at 104 Claude Yates Dr. just off of Hillsboro Road near Franklin High School.
In addition to the music, a silent auction will be held. Admission is $10 and all of the proceeds will help Donaldson travel to Malawi to work at Adziwa, a community planted right outside Kauma Village in Lilongwe, Malawi.
“Adziwa was created for children who are orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. If their parents or caretakers pass away from AIDS, someone from the community adopts them and they are given a home instead of having to go to an orphanage,” she explained. “There is also a school there, which is what I am going to be helping out with. I will also be teaching Bible studies at the church, Capital City Baptist Church in Lilognwe, and also working with the youth band.”
