Hester, who will now be on the opposite sidelines in the annual Battle of the Woods rivalry, is a former head at La Vergne High School in Rutherford County. He was an offensive coach at Brentwood in 2011 but took the coordinator job to help with the transition under a new Bruins head coach.

Hester, a Brentwood native and BHS graduate, will be the fifth head coach in Raptors history.  He was a-three sport athlete in high school, competing in baseball, football and wrestling.

"I am very excited about the future of Ravenwood football,” Hester said in a statement. “I have witnessed first-hand the enthusiastic support this tight-knit community generates for its young people, school, and football program.

“My love and excitement for the game is contagious. I will encourage the highest level of involvement from the student body, their parents, as well as the entire Raptor Family. My vision for Ravenwood football is clear and I will work tirelessly until the job is done.”

Last year as the Brentwood defensive coordinator Hester helped the Bruins hold five opponents scoreless and gave up just eleven points per game while advancing to the state quarterfinals in class 6A.

“I’m happy for Will. He did a great job for us. He deserves to be a head coach,” BHS Coach Mark Pemberton said.

Hester probably will finish out the school year at Brentwood, but do Ravenwood’s workouts before and after school, Pemberton said.

"Because of Coach Hester's strong connection to the community and his extensive football experience, he is a natural for the job,” said Ravenwood Principal Pam Vaden.

Hester will be seeking to lead RHS back to the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Ravenwood captured the class 5A championship in 2005 and was runner up in 2006.

Hester attended Tennessee Tech University, obtaining a degree in secondary education with emphasis in mathematics. While at Tech he volunteered for the Upperman High School football team.

Upon graduation Hester immediately began his coaching career. He has coached for 14 years on both sides of the ball, including stints as defensive coordinator at La Vergne, Siegel and Brentwood.

Hester was also the offensive coordinator at La Vergne and was promoted to the Wolverines’ head coaching position in 2007 and held that position for three years.
