Brentwood Home Page news reports The Brentwood Police Department has compiled some shopping safety tips to protect your purchases, personal belongings, children and yourself – especially during the upcoming holiday season.
BPD Captain Tommy Walsh offers the following safety reminders:
Try to do most of your shopping during daylight hours. If shopping at night, park in well-lit, well-travelled areas.
Don’t let thieves “window shop.” Hide all valuables that must be left in your car. Small electronic items, such as GPS units, iPods, iPads, etc., are very popular for car burglars because they are easy to conceal and resell. Never leave your purse or wallet in your vehicle.
Lock your doors and windows and take the keys with you.
Try to shop with at least one other person. There IS safety in numbers!
Wear comfortable casual clothing. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry.
Consider carrying limited amounts of cash. Keep wallets and purses concealed or close to your body to avoid purse snatchers and pick-pockets.
Teach young children what to do if they get lost in the mall or large department store.
Be aware of your surroundings. Report suspicious persons or activities immediately to the police department.
