Brentwood Home Page news reports Halloween doesn’t come around until next Monday, but families who want to celebrate a day or two early have several fun opportunities this weekend.
Haunted Trails of Horror
Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s Department’s annual “Haunted Trails of Horror” starts at the frightful hour of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with an untimely ending each night at 9 p.m. This spooktacular haunted hayride has become a Halloween tradition for Williamson County residents. This family event is not for the faint of heart, and parents should know their child’s spook factor before participating. The hay wagons are wheelchair accessible. All Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department programs and facilities are open to the public.
Admission is $5 per person (cash only) with no charge for children under the age of 3. Refreshments are available on site for an additional fee (also cash only). The complex is located at 1120 Hillsboro Road in Franklin near the intersection of Mack Hatcher Blvd. Parking is free.
Pumpkinfest in Franklin
One of downtown Franklin’s favorite annual traditions, Pumpkinfest, has several new features planned this year. The festival returns to Main Street and the surrounding streets this Saturday
Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with more than 75 arts and crafts vendors, a children’s activity area several stages, a chili cookoff and the great pumpkin. A Costume Contest starts at 3 p.m. at the Five Points stage. There are various age categories as well as a pet category; $1 per entry.
Also in Franklin, “Grave Matters: The Stories Behind the Stones” tours will be held Saturday night at the Historic Resthaven Cemetery on North Margin Street from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person for adults, $5 for children, but the activity is not recommended for children under 6. Participants should bring a flashlight and wear close-toe shoes. Tickets are available from www.franklinonfoot.com.
Harpeth Hills Trunk or Treat
The church that treats the community to a huge Fourth of July celebration every year also invites all of its neighbors to its 11th annual Trunk or Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Hosted by Children’s Ministries, the event features chili, hot dogs, dessert and a Halloween Parade as well as a “Trunk and Treat” in the church parking lot. At least 75 decorated car trunks will be open with treats.

Brenthaven Trunk or Treat
Brenthaven Cumberland Presbyterian Church’s annual Trunk or Treat Festival is also planned at 5 p.m. Sunday. Lots of fun things are planned including games, three-legged and sack races, apple bobbing, contests (best trunk, best treat, people's choice and more). Wear your costumes and join the fun. The event will be set up in the church’s north parking lot, 516 Franklin Road. Information: 373-4826.
Haunted Trails Storytelling
Everyone who dares is invited to hear spooky stories at the second annual Haunted Trails Storytelling at Crockett Park this Friday and Saturday, from 6 to 9 p.m. The free event provides innocent fun in a slightly “spooky,” but family-friendly atmosphere. Paul Cox, event founder and organizer, estimates that 1,000 people walked through Crockett Park last year for Haunted Trails Storytelling, triple what was expected, and hopes for the same turnout this year.
