Brentwood Home Page news reports The Williamson County Board of Education honored students and teachers at its Dec. 19 meeting Monday night.
Ravenwood High’s Michael Earhart was honored with a Student Spotlight for winning the League of American Women Voters “TN Redistricting: Map It Out !” contest. He won in two categories, Best State House Map and Best State Senate Map. His teacher is Addison Pate.
Page High’s Taylor Huff won First Place in the Jobs for Tennessee Graduates National Leadership Contest in Employability Skills. Her teacher is Jon Kerlikowske.
Three teachers were honored with Staff Spotlights during the meeting. Bethesda Elementary’s Jodi Johnson and Debbie Looper along with Grassland Elementary’s Pam Zigler were recognized for receiving the 4-H Outstanding Teacher Award.
Board Chairman Pat Anderson recognized the Centennial High strings ensemble for its performance prior to the Board meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney reviewed the State Report Card achievement and growth data with the Board.
In Unfinished and New Business, the Board:
· Approved a Ravenwood PTO request for architect renderings and model for facility improvements at the school.
· Approved additional school fees of $200 each for winter guard and winter drum line.
· Approved a resolution of $26,515,448 for the five year capital outlay construction plan. The plan will be presented to the Williamson County Commission in January, and it can be found at http://www.wcs.edu/InFocus/InFocus1112/Issue_9/capital.pdf
In other action, the Board:
· Approved recommended field trip fee requests.
· Approved a new marquee sign at Scales Elementary to be paid for by the PTO.

The next regular meeting of the WCBE will be Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Administrative Complex.
