Updated 10:10 p.m. Brentwood Home Page news reports The Brentwood High boys, Ravenwood girls and Brentwood Academy boys cross country teams all won state titles on Saturday in the championship meet at Percy Warner Park’s Steeplechase course.
Individually, BHS senior Paul Stuart and BA’s Allison Cheeseman each finished as runner-up in their respective races.

Stuart’s second-place finish in the Class AAA boys 5K race paced the Bruins to the championship, with four other Bruins making the top 18. He clocked in at 16 minutes, 1.28 seconds – less than a minute behind winner Will Templeton (16:00.37) of Hardin Valley.
Ravenwood senior Conley Chitwood ran the course in 16:10.52 for fourth place.
BHS ran away with its first boys cross country team title by scoring 50 points to second-place Houston’s 129. Sophomore Alec Thomas placed 8th in 16:19.37, and his senior brother Nathan Thomas was 12th in 16:26.91 (for 11 points, due to an individual qualifier).
Bruins sophomore Taylor Caldwell (16:45.65) crossed the finish line 14th for 13 points, and fellow 10th-grader Aaron Thomas was the third member of his family to score in the Bruins’ championship. Aaron (16:45.65), twin brother of Alec, was 18th – good for 16 points.
Brentwood’s total time was 1:22:14.26 in the dominating performance, with an average of 16:26.86.
In the Class AAA girls meet, Ravenwood senior Erika Peoples came in fourth place at 19:08.58, but scored two points for the champion Lady Raptors. Winner Haley Ward (18:41.84), a McMinn County junior, and third-place Rachel Wooten of Franklin qualified only as individuals, not with teams.
RHS junior Dabney Chitwood (20:15.93, 27th) picked up 21 points, while the Lady Raptors’ next three runners all came in as a pack for 29, 30 and 31 points: freshman Mackenzie Lefler (20:33.62, 29th); senior Rachel Spinden (20:33.74, 30th); and freshman Sabrina Florey (20:36.18, 31st).
Ravenwood’s 113 points edged out Science Hill’s 119 on the basis of 5th-place finisher. The Lady Raptors’ total time was 1:41:08.05, with an average of 20:13.61.
It was just the sixth RHS state team championship in any sport, joining the 2005 football team (5A), the girls tennis team’s back-to-back titles (2010, ’11), and volleyball’s consecutive crowns (2010, ’11).
Brentwood senior Brittany Alexander was the Lady Bruins’ top finisher in 13th place at 19:37.64, for 10 points.
Brentwood Academy’s boys captured the Division II-AA championship, and BA sophomore Allison Cheeseman was runner-up in the girls race.
Sophomore twin brothers Garrett and Andrew Bull finished fourth and sixth for BA, respectively, only about 6½ seconds apart. Garrett turned in a time of 16:47.97, and Andrew covered the course in 16:54.32.
The Eagles won the team championship by only 9 points over McCallie, 41-50. MBA’s Daniel Peters was first with the only sub-16-minute time in DII-AA (15:57.31).
BA clinched the title with a strong showing by the junior class of Bryce Prior (16:58.32, 9th); Baylor McKay (17:03.85, 10th); Brown Bailey (17:10.35, 12th); and Garrett Wilson (17:19.78, 15th). Freshman Ben Roberson (18:08.39) was 30th.
Brentwood High’s other varsity competitors in the AAA boys race were junior Daniel Hamm (50th, 17:31.42) and sophomore Coleman Churitch (81st, 17:52.41).
The RHS boys team finished 14th in AAA. Other Raptors runners were sophomore Quinn Avirom (35th, 17:14.60, 27 pts.); sophomore Justin Karl (114th, 18:15.22, 96 pts.); senior Daniel Lowe (128th, 18:28.29, 109 pts.); junior Paine Leffler (136th, 18:38.46, 116 pts.); sophomore Trevor Phillips (145th, 18:47.90); and Parker Steed (161th, 19:06.04).
The Lady Raptors’ other varsity competitors were junior Madison Lefler (59th, 21:11.46) and sophomore Abby Finnegan (62nd, 21:20.23).
Brentwood’s girls squad placed 8th in the Class AAA race. Sophomore Elizabeth Scott was the Lady Bruins’ second-best runner in 51st at 20:59.37 for 42 points, and senior Allison O’Neill ran a 21:10.95 in 58th for 48 points.
Freshman Brianna Koshy (87th, 21:58.60, 74 pts.) and senior Anne Ramsey (89th, 21:59.76, 76 pts.) were the other scoring BHS runners. Also competing for the Lady Bruins were sophomore Ansley Hardin (94th, 22:07.98) and freshman Natalie Batiste (107th, 22:28.12).
In the Division II-AA girls race, BA’s Cheeseman (19:08.23) came in second place by less than 9 seconds to Harpeth Hall freshman Reagan Freeman (18:59.32).
The Lady Eagles were fourth overall, with four other finishers in the top 40 – sophomore Shelby Collins (20th, 21:43.26); senior Paige Shelby (23rd, 21:55.93) freshman Patricia Jones (27th, 22:07.73); and junior Faith Whatley (37th, 22:33.37).
Sophomore Savannah Koehn (41st, 22:40.11) and Nikki Kocina (43rd, 22:48.23) also ran in the state meet for Brentwood Academy.
In Class A-AA, Christ Prebyterian sophomore Jessica Clarke took third with a time of 20:17.02, picking up just 1 point as the lowest runner on a qualifying team.
