BHS lacrosse season starts today

Brentwood Home Page news reports

Brentwood High School’s varsity boys lacrosse team is set to kick off its season today against Ensworth High School. The away match begins at 4 p.m.

The team will also travel to Chattanooga this weekend to take part in a season kick-off tournament at McCallie High School. They will face a talented McCallie team, two teams from the Louisville area (Collegiate and Trinity) and Knoxville’s Farragut High School -- the team that knocked Brentwood from the quarterfinals last season.

Lacrosse has become the fastest growing sport in North America. Coach Chuck Catterton’s 2010 varsity squad is an experienced one.  It will play 13-15 games this season culminating with the state playoffs in early May. Likewise, the Brentwood JV squad will also play a 13-game schedule throughout the next two months. Brentwood kicks off its home schedule Tuesday, March 2, with a 5 p.m. JV game against MBA at Crockett Park followed by the 7 p.m. varsity game.

Brentwood carries nine  seniors: Richard Alter, Jacob Fredi, Alex Kronk, Sean Orr, Peter Raffanti, Will Sanders, Preston Stapp, Ben Tarpley, and Matt Touloeisani, on its 22-man varsity squad. Alter, Fredi, Orr and Stapp are return starters.

This marks 10-plus years of boys club lacrosse at BHS. Two years ago the team captured the TSLA Div. II State Championship and followed that up with an appearance in the quarterfinals of the Div. I playoffs last year.

The Brentwood Lacrosse Program continues to grow and now covers lacrosse student/athletes from grades 4 through 12. For more information about Brentwood Lacrosse please visit their website at www.brentwoodlax.com.
