Updated 12:02 a.m. Friday Brentwood Home Page news reports Senior point guard Jack Montague scored 22 points to lead Brentwood High past First Academy of Orlando, Fla., 66-64 in overtime, for the Ensworth Holiday Shootout championship Thursday night.
Montague, who has committed to Yale Unviersity, sank four of the Bruins' eight 3-point baskets.
Asa Duvall, a transfer from Brentwood Academy, had a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. Gates Gustafson and Andy Schumpert hit the other treys for BHS, and Cole Harrison added eight points.
Brentwood jumped out to a 17-8 lead after a quarter but was outscored 25-15 in the fourth period for a 56-56 deadlock.
The Bruins (10-4) notched their fourth straight win and beat three straight out-of-state opponents at the Ensworth tourney. BHS now plays Class A defending state champion Lake County at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, in Hickman County's Above the Rim tournament.
On Wednesday night, Brentwood outscored Decatur (Ala.) High 14-5 in the fourth quarter to win 43-38 in the semifinals. Duvall led the Bruins with 11 points including a 3-pointer.
Montague and Jack Maher each chipped in eight points, while Will Jones added seven points and Ryan Meacham scored six. Montague also hit a 3.
In Tuesday’s opening game, Brentwood rolled to a 60-34 victory over McAdory (Ala.). The Bruins broke away from an 11-11 first-quarter tie to lead 30-19 at halftime.
Montague poured in 12 points, while Duvall sank a trio of treys and finished with 11 points.
Harrison, Schumpert and Jones scored eight points apiece. Gustafson also hit a 3-pointer, and 6-6 junior forward Cody Shelton saw some action after returning from a knee injury.
