New York Times' bestselling author Patti Callahan Henry is among the authors coming to Brentwood Country Club June 16

Literacy Council draws big names for June 16 event

The Literacy Council of Williamson County will honor three outstanding authors at its annual Author! Author! luncheon on Thursday, June 16, with journalist John Siegenthaler Sr. again serving as emcee.

Brenda Vantrease, Patti Callahan Henry and Marshall Chapman will each share their personal writing journeys with the audience and, after lunch, will sign copies of their books. Music will be provided by Nashville Christian music producer Jeff Nelson.

The benefit event begins at 11:30 a.m. at Brentwood Country Club, 4123 Country Club Drive. Tickets to are $45 and reservations are available online at www.LiteracyCouncilWC.org and by telephone at the Literacy Council office at 615-472-5010. Seating is limited to the first 200 people who make reservations.

 Vantrease

Brenda Vantrease is the author of historical novels, including her third and most recent The Heretic's Wife (St. Martin's Press 2010). Brenda's debut novel, The Illuminator, was translated into 14 foreign languages and became a national bestseller. Her second novel The Mercy Seller followed.

Patti Callahan Henry is the New York Times bestselling author of seven novels including her most recent The Perfect Love Song (Vanguard Press 2010). Her other novels are Losing the Moon, Where the River Runs, When Light Breaks, Between the Tides, The Art of Keeping Secrets and Driftwood Summer. Patti has been hailed as a fresh new voice in Southern fiction.

Marshall Chapman is a musician, songwriter and author whose second book, They Came to Nashville (Vanderbilt University Press - Country Music Foundation Press 2010) is a 2010 Fall Okra Pick of the Southern Independent Booksellers Association. Her memoir, Goodbye, Little Rock and Roller, was published in 2003.

Siegenthaler

Siegenthaler is founder of The Freedom Forum First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University. For 43 years he has an award-winning reporter, editor, publisher and CEO of The Tennessean. For over 35 years, he has hosted A Word on Words on WNPT, Nashville's Public TV station. The show is a conversation between Siegenthaler and a noted novelist, journalist, historian or memoirists. He closes each show with the words, "Keep reading."

The Literacy Council of Williamson County, through its free educational programs, has enriched and transformed the lives of adults in Williamson County. The Council provides a variety of no-cost services including: Teaching individuals to read or improve their reading skills; tutoring students who are learning English as a Second Language; tutoring students preparing for the GED; funding GED testing for those in financial need; supplying reading materials to Williamson County service members overseas; conducting book clubs for senior adults.
