Tickets go on sale Wednesday at Brentwood High School for Friday night's Battle of the Woods district and city rivalry between the BHS and Ravenwood varsity football teams.
Cost is $5 for school age and above as the Bruins (2-2, 0-1 11-AAA) play host to the Raptors (2-1, 1-0) at 7:30 p.m. The tickets will be available in the main office at BHS through Friday until 2 p.m.
Estimated attendance at the game at Ravenwood last year was 5,500 based on ticket and pass sales, according to RHS athletic director Patrick Whitlock.
Brentwood holds a 5-3 edge in the regular-season series after winning the past two years, 35-7 and 28-7. The teams split in their only two playoff meetings for a 6-4 BHS overall advantage.
And that's not the only Battle of the Woods matchup coming up in the next seven days. The Raptors freshmen play a football game at 7 p.m. Thursday at BHS.
Brentwood also hosts the Raptors' defending state champion volleyball team at 6 p.m. Thursday in their first meeting this season.
Ravenwood's soccer team then visits BHS next Tuesday at 7 p.m. for their only regular-season meeting.
Volleyball: RHS at BHS, 6 p.m. Thursday
Class AAA returning state champ Ravenwood is 14-6 overall (4-0 in district play), hasn't lost to a team in Tennessee yet, and has the only victory over Ensworth.
The Lady Raptors also won their first three district matches by 3-0 scores before coming back to edge Independence 3-2 Tuesday night (25-17, 22-25, 20-25, 25-7, 15-11). Sophomore Kat Hutson led RHS with 25 kills, and Stephanie Cerino had 18 kills and 5 blocks. Jazzy Oates also added 7 kills and 4 blocks, plus had no hitting or serving errors.
RHS travelled to Louisville, Ky., for a tournament last weekend, where the Raptors went 3-2 against out-of-state teams.
Brentwood, meanwhile, went 9-1 at its invitational volleyball tournament at A-Game last weekend, losing only to Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Georgia.
The Lady Bruins are now 16-7 overall, 2-1 in the district after Tuesday night's 3-1 district victory over Centennial (25-19, 17-25, 28-26, 25-20). Sarah Tuttle recorded 11 kills, Hannah Thompson 20 assists and Alexis Spahn 19 digs.
Most of the other BHS defeats came against Alabama opponents in an early-season tournament. BHS split its opening two district matches, sweeping Franklin 3-0 but falling to Independence 3-2. The Lady Bruins then won against tri-meet host Page last Wednesday, but dropped a 3-1 match with Ensworth.
Girls soccer: RHS at BHS, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20
Ravenwood (3-1, 1-0 District 11-AAA) edged Independence 2-1 in overtime last Thursday in the district opener. Mackenzie Kastner and Christi Padgett scored the goals, while Elizabeth Hull had nine saves at keeper.
The Lady Raptors stepped out of the district against Siegel on Tuesday night, losing 1-0 in a makeup game. RHS then visits Franklin on Thursday before playing at rival BHS next Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Brentwood got off to a rough 1-3 start (0-1 in 11-AAA) heading into Wednesday night's trip to Hillsboro. The Lady Bruins also play a Murfreesboro opponent, visiting Oakland on Thursday night, before the big Battle of the Woods next Tuesday, Sept. 20.
