Updated 11 p.m. Sunday Brentwood Home Page news reports Ravenwood's basketball teams both advanced into the Region 6-AAA semifinals, with the Lady Raptors playing tonight at 7:30 p.m. and the boys playing at 6 p.m. Tuesday just prior to Brentwood's boys semifinal game. On Saturday the Raptors rolled past Hillwood 75-44 and the girls defeated District 12-AAA runner-up Overton 50-32 in the tourney at the BHS gym.
The Lady Raptors (23-8) will play tonight against third-year Metro school Cane Ridge, which upset the District 11-AAA champion Lady Bruins 48-41 on their home court Friday. The Ravenwood girls finished third in the regular season and tourney behind BHS and Hillsboro.
In Tuesday's boys semifinals, the 11-AAA runner-up RHS boys team (21-10) will take on 12-AAA winner Overton, and tourney host BHS will play Hunters Lane at 7:30 p.m.
Semifinal winners will not only land a regional finals berth, but also will be guaranteed a second game in the sub-state round.
Devin Robinson poured in 18 points and backcourt mate Evan Forhetz scored 17 in Ravenwood's region quarterfinal victory late Saturday over Hillwood (10-16). Senior center Sam Wilcox, who missed the district championship game with a concussion, added 13 points in his return to the playing floor.
The Raptors jumped out to a 21-10 first-quarter lead and pushed it to a 22-point advantage by halftime.
In the afternoon girls game, Ashley Beyke and Erin Lauderdale each scored 14 points for the Lady Raptors, with Beyke sinking four 3-pointers and Lauderdale hitting the team's other two.
RHS led 18-14 at halftime, then outscored the Bobcats 15-3 in the third quarter. The loss finished the season for Overton (18-12).
District 11-AAA girls runner-up Hillsboro will play 12-AAA winner Hunters Lane in Monday's 6 p.m. girls semifinal after dispatching Glencliff 64-49 on Saturday. Tennessee signee Isabelle Harrison led the Lady Burros with 11 points.
Hunters Lane's Alfred Johnson and Darrious Kinnard each scored 14 points in the other boys quarterfinal Saturday, setting up the 12-AAA runner-up Warriors' semifinal meeting with Brentwood.
Region 6-AAA finals are at BHS at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the girls and Thursday for the boys. Sub-state games are Saturday for girls teams and Monday, March 7, for boys squads, with region champs hosting the opposing region's runner-up.
