Brentwood Home Page news reports
No. 2 seed Brentwood lost to top-seeded and host Independence 3-1 Monday night to drop into the losers’ bracket of the District 11-AAA tournament.

The Bruins need a victory in Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. game against Franklin, which eliminated Ravenwood 10-4 earlier Monday, to make the 7 p.m. finals. BHS or FHS would  have to turn around and beat IHS to force a second championship game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Independence had already qualified for next week's region semifinals for winning the regular season.

The Bruins were struck out eight times by Eagles pitcher Dylan Toscano (6-2).  Dale Burdick hit a solo homer for Independence.

Both teams only gave up five hits each, with Kevin Stoffer taking the loss. IHS scored a run in the third and fourth innings before Brentwood pulled within 2-1 in the top of the fifth. But the Eagles added another run in the bottom of the inning.

Ravenwood, a preseason 11-AAA favorite, led 4-2 against Franklin after a three-run fifth. But the Rebels rallied for eight runs in the top of the seventh and pounded out 14 hits against the Raptors.

Taylor Berzina earned the victory on the mound, while Chase Denton recorded the loss. Ravenwood was the defending district and region champion.

Franklin took 2 out of 3 from Brentwood in the regular season, but lost its series with RHS 2-1.

Brentwood was 2-1 in the regular season against Independence, which swept the remaining 11-AAA teams Ravenwood, Franklin, Hillsboro, and Centennial.

Bruins runner slides into third safely in Monday's 3-1 loss to Independence in District 11-AAA winners bracket.
