BASEBALL: BA wins in extra innings over Ryan

Hunter Wood’s walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth lifted Brentwood Academy to a 4-3 extra-inning victory over Father Ryan to open a Division II-AA regional baseball playoff series.

The next game is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at BA’s field, with a third game to follow if necessary.

Taylor Greene hit a two-run homer for the Eagles, while Mason Sutton scored the winning run on Wood’s RBI hit in the eighth.

Brentwood Academy pitcher Tyler Berlin (5-3) struck out eight and allowed just five hits in the complete-game victory.

The Eagles are the three-time defending state champions in Division II-AA.

The second round of the playoffs will take place next weekend.
