Soverign Grace homeschool team wins girls team title at A.F. Bridges race

Brentwood Academy sophomore Allison Cheeseman won another big race, finishing first at the 46th annual A.F. Bridges Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

The BA boys varsity cross country team also had another strong performance at the Gatorland Run in Bowling Green, Ky., placing just two points behind winner Montgomery Bell Academy.

Both teams run in the Jesse Owens Classic in Oakville, Ala., this Saturday, where Ravenwood will also compete. Brentwood High School will run in the Great American XC Festival in Cary, N.C., on Saturday.

A.F. Bridges Invitational

Cheeseman ran the only sub-20-minute time in the girls 5K, covering the Steeplechase Course in Nashville's Percy Warner Park in 19:49.30.

She was nearly a minute faster than runner-up Lauren Carmody (20:40.90) of the Sovereign Grace home-school team based in Brentwood.

Sovereign Grace ran way with the girls team title with 45 points, while BA placed third with 117 (just two behind Chattanooga Girls Preparatory School. Madelie Carmody was sixth, Katherine Carmody ninth, Rebecca King 13th, Celeste Grubb 17th and Sarah Minchey 24th for the Sovereign Grace Storm.

Senior Nikki Kocina (23:05.00) ran 29th for Brentwood Academy, while Britta Ristau, Allyson Collins and Savannah Koehn came in 32-33-34 for the Lady Eagles. Faith Whatley also made the top 40 for BA.

In the boys race, Sovereign Grace was third, led by Davis Wells' seventh-place finish (17:47.80). The Storm also had the 11th-best runner in Thomas Smith (18:05.20), while Landon Morel was 19th, Mark Graubner 21st and Caleb Smith 34th.

Gatorland Run

Brentwood Academy sophomore Garrett Bull had an excellent third-place finish in 16 minutes, 25.6 seconds. He was only 22.5 seconds off the winning pace of MBA senior Daniel Peters (16:03.1) and on the heels of Independence senior Jared Wingerter (16:16.7).

Baylor McKay also made the top 10 with an eighth-place 16:52.6, Andrew Bull was 12th, Brown Bailey 18th, Ben Roberson 24th, Parker Graham 26th, and Garrett Wilson 28th.
