Brentwood Home Page news reports The Fifth Third Foundation is granting United Way of Williamson County $10,000 to support Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites throughout Williamson County. United Way operates the VITA locations which offer free income tax assistance and tax credit filing for families making $49,000 or less annually.
With free filing of basic returns and identifying special credits, the goal is to help families improve their financial stability. Last year’s effort resulted in $433,277 in federal refunds and $129,877 of Earned Income Tax Credits coming back to Williamson County residents.
“Fifth Third Bank is proud of our long-standing history of philanthropic giving, becoming the first financial institution in the U.S. to establish a corporate foundation in 1948,” Fifth Third Bank Tennessee affiliate president and CEO Don Abel said. “Our employees continue the tradition of charitable giving every year by rallying to support the United Way. The annual campaign allows us to share in the non-profit’s vision and improve the community in which we work and live.”
The Cincinnati-based bank has two Brentwood branches, one in Maryland Farms and one in Cool Springs.
Fifth Third Bank also provided an additional $5,000 to support Volunteer Williamson County, United Way’s volunteer action center and Fifth Third’s employees contributed over $64,457 to United Way of Williamson County through the annual United Way campaign this year.
“Our community is stronger because of companies like Fifth Third Bank,” said Ann Buchanan, president of United Way of Williamson County. “With such a committed partner, we have a tremendous opportunity to help families and individuals get the most out of their annual returns and stretch their valuable dollars further.”
