Brentwood Home Page news reports On Wednesday, Oct. 12, Brentwood Academy's 12, 765 students in grades 6-12, along with the entire faculty, will spread out to serve in various organizations throughout the community for their semi-annual service day.
Students will serve in 71 locations including Second Harvest Food Bank, Graceworks, Radnor Lake, Thriftsmart, Show Hope, Samaritan’s Purse and Happy Tales Humane Society.
Twice a year, Brentwood Academy sets aside one full school day to serve, in memory of Joe Campbell, a 12-year member of the BA faculty who dedicated his life’s service to teaching young people and to serving others.
“Joe Campbell loved God, and his personal relationship with Jesus Christ found expression in his countless acts of quiet service as well as in his consistent daily attention to his duties as teacher and administrator," said Headmaster Curt Masters. "He read books with struggling students, visited families in the hospital, took students on mission trips, and constantly found ways to encourage others.”
“Part of BA’s purpose in nurturing and challenging each student is to prepare them for a lifestyle of service,” said Spiritual Life Director Rian Berger. "Actions do not produce faith, but genuine faith always produces actions. As Martin Luther said, ‘We are saved by faith alone, but the faith that saves is never alone.’ ”
Other locations where BA students will serve on Wednesday are Cole Elementary School, Grace Healthworks, Nashville Food Project, Servant Group International, Sophia’s Heart, A.Z. Kelley Elementary School, King’s Kids, Susan Grey School, Edgehill Daycare Center, Paragon Mills Elementary, YMCA, Healing Hands International, High Hopes Academy, Harvest Hands, Tusculum Elementary School, Williamson County Animal Control, The Nest Door, Southerland Place, Morningside Assisted Living, Love At First Sight Pet Adoption, Meals on Wheels, Buysmart, The Rochelle Center, St. Luke’s Community Center and others.
Brentwood Academy, founded in 1969, is a co-educational, independent, college-preparatory school for grades 6-12, dedicated to nurturing and challenging the whole person—body, mind and spirit—to the glory of God.
