Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood Academy swept Father Ryan in a first-round Division II-AA baseball series, while Ravenwood’s softball team came back to defeat rival Brentwood in two championship games to win the District 11-AAA tournament.
RHS and BHS still both move into the regional semifinal round of the Division I-AAA postseason Monday night. The Lady Raptors will host McGavock at 4:30 p.m., while the Lady Bruins travel up Franklin Road to play 12-AAA winner Overton High School at Whitfield Park at 7 p.m..
Baseball: Three-time defending state champion Brentwood Academy led the whole way in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Ryan to take the best-of-3 series. The Eagles now advance into a second-round series at Montgomery Bell Academy, with two games set for Friday starting at 2 p.m. and a third game on Saturday if needed.
Mason Sutton drove in two runs on a single, and Tyler Greene picked up the win.
Softball: Top-seeded Ravenwood, upset by Brentwood in the winners bracket Friday 5-4 in a game suspended by rain Thursday, pounded out 13-4 and 18-12 victories over BHS in the championship.
Lindsey Thurman had 11 RBI and hit 7-for-10 in the two games, while Hannah Trainer was 8-for-11. Susan Huddleston pitched the first-game win, while Ashley Beyke (8-3) earned the victory on the mound in the deciding game.
RHS is seeking to return to the state tournament after making its first trip to the Spring Fling championships in Murfreesboro last season.
