Austin's still waiting for Charlie's call, plus a call to vote
Austin's still waiting for Charlie's call, plus a call to vote | BrentWord, Brentwood Home Page,Susan Leathers, brentwood tn news,

Remember Austin Huff, the BHS and University of Missouri grad who’s a finalist to become Charlie Sheen’s social media intern? He’s still waiting to hear if he’s made it to the next round, but in the meantime he does share, via Facebook, that the video he had to produce and post on YouTube as part of the hiring process is No. 3 in views.

That’s pretty impressive considering that out of the 43,000 original applicants, Austin is one of 250 finalists.

“There are only two videos that have more views than mine. One is untouchable. The other has 2.5k more than me. First, thank you all so much for your support/help through it all. Second, if you're not annoyed enough (which you have every right to be), I ask that we take that #2 spot. I love you all.”

Let’s all view Austin’s video by clicking here. Then it would be nice if you would “Like” it. ‘Cause I bet you will.

Vote and save on your next burger!
On Thursday I heard about an idea that I really has legs. It’s no secret that voter turnout in past Brentwood City Commission elections has been pretty dismal considering the number of register voters we have. In fact, I pulled voting records of our six candidates and am a bit disappointed by two for their own voting records in city races. But more on that next week….

Here’s the idea: A discount promotion by local restaurants and merchants who would offer a discount to anyone who comes in wearing an “I voted” sticker given out at the polls.

Who’s in?

Brentwood Home Page will be happy to list and promote any business who wants to play along.

If you are a business owner and want to participate, email me at susan@brentwoodhomepage.com. If you are a registered voter who loves the idea, tell your favorite local restaurant owner or dry cleaners or hair salon or car repair shop about the notion so they can be in touch.

I know I sound like a broken record, but this is an important city election. With our “two Joes” retiring, at least two new commissioners who will help shape the city’s future will be elected.

Don’t think your vote matters? Ask Mayor Betsy Crossley. Four years ago, she and candidate Paul Ross tied in the municipal election. That meant the city had the expense of a second election and both candidates had to spend an extra month, not to mention more money, to continue their campaigns.

Early voting for the non-partisan race is scheduled for April 13-28, excluding April 22 (Good Friday). You can vote at the Brentwood Library, City Hall or at the Williamson County Administrative Complex in Franklin (where you get your car tags).

Do you have other ideas to promote voter turnout and overall participation in the process? I’d love to hear from you.
