I love Facebook, though my 17-year-old accuses me of stalking people and spending way too much time on the social networking site.
Truth be told, I’m spending far less time checking in with old friends, or even my best friends, since Brentwood Home Page went live a few weeks ago. Who has time to play on the computer when working on the computer has become a 16-hour proposition five days a week?
This too shall pass … I hope.
But I spent a little quality time on the site Wednesday afternoon to see what those in the Real World were up to. I thought I’d share. These are all from Brentwood friends and acquaintances, by the way:
Roger Shirley, a fellow Emory & Henry alum, shares this: Armed with research (re: cause of weak flame even though plenty of gas and tight connections), advice from Home Depot and $17 worth of hardware, I was going to fix my gas grill and feel like a real man. I failed. But I'm OK with that.
Maurilio Amorim, a high D if you know what I mean, declares: Spandex is a privilege not a right.
Mom of four who looks 24, Flo O'Brien Randolph: Back from touring the George Dickel Distillery.
Our mayor, Betsy Schubring Crossley, who has this social networking stuff down to a science: Enjoyed talking to all the folks at the Martin Center today as Senator Jack Johnson and I talked about the state of the City and the State of TN.
Robyn Rowell flushed out the mole in my flower bed! He's dead dead dead! 1 down 1 more to go! Me and Clyde goin mole huntin'!!!!
Note to me: Go dognap Clyde for a day.
Mary Cole Braun wonders how I ever worked a full-time job while raising two kids....this part time job is wearing me out...and I don't think it’s because I'm getting old.
And my personal favorite: A note from halfway retired journalist Jim East of Franklin who lists as an interest on his Facebook profile “writing about crime and people (which essentially is the same thing)” to Channel 2 news anchor Bob Mueller of Brentwood:
“bob, noticed a minute ago on erin holt's piece of student's death from h1n1, that mother of a student there says she is pulling her son out of school for health reasons ... this as viewers could see smoke from her lit cigarette wafting inside the car as her son sat nearby! ain't america great ?!?!”
It is indeed.
Friday night lights on Thursday
A gentle reminder: If you love Ravenwood High School football and don’t want to miss the Raptors’ first home game, you would do well to be at the stadium tonight by 7 p.m. It’s a Thursday night game.
