4 BHS athletes sign letters-of-intent

A Brentwood High School lacrosse player, softball senior, and two Lady Bruin swimmers signed national letters-of-intent recently to compete at the collegiate level next season.

 
 Andrew Burnett signs to play lacrosse at Sacred Heart U.
 Whitney Christian will play softball at Union University.
 Allison Maher signs a DI swimming scholarship at WKU.
 Rachel Kaegi will swim for DII William Jewell College.

Lacrosse player Andrew Burnett signed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse with Sacred Heart University, a Catholic college in Connecticut. Attending the signing were parents Robert and Pam Burnett; sister Sarah Burnett;  Jim Hudson, first lacrosse coach; Nolan Godfrey, travel coach of Claddagh Select in Boston; Will Bartholomew, CEO of D1 Sports Training.

Shortstop Whitney Christian, who homered in the regional semifinal victory for BHS, signed to play softball  for Union University’s Div. II program in Jackson, Tenn. She is the daughter of Tim and Tammy Christian.

Swimmer Rachel Kaegi signed with NCAA Division II William Jewell College, located in Liberty, Mo. Her parents Erwin and Bridget Kaegi, attended her signing along with her coaches, Mark Walker, Kate Chronic and Ginny Maher.

Allison Maher signed to swim for DI’s Western Kentucky University. Her parents, Tony and Ginny Maher (her mom is also her BHS coach) attended the signing ceremony along with coaches John Morse and Ron Seigenthaler.

Burnett has been a starting varsity player his high school career, and has played the past two seasons with Claddagh Select, a travel team out of Boston, MA, in which he made several all-star teams throughout their summer play.

He has competed in both regional and national face-off competitions in the Baltimore and New York area, in which he made it to the final round. Andrew was recruited as a face-off specialist/offensive midfielder.

Burnett is the first Tennessee lacrosse player to commit and sign as a DI player for the 2012-13 class. Through his junior season at BHS, he had 51 goals, 23 assists, 144 ground balls, and a 59.8% face-off winning percentage (225 out of 376).
