Dream ends in semifinals for two Bruins, one Raptors
Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood Academy junior Danny Maloney and sophomore Amos Mason will compete for state championships in Division II Saturday night at the TSSAA state individual tournament at the Williamson County Ag Expo in Franklin.
Two semifinalists from Brentwood High and one from Ravenwood weren't able to reach the Division I championship final, but will still take home a medal. The Raptors were also still in the running late Friday night for three other DI medals for third-sixth place, while BA will earn nine medals in all in DII.
Ravenwood sophomore Jacob Freeman saw his state title run ended in the 119-pound DI semifinals and only so narrowly -- with a 4-3 loss in OT to Notre Dame junior Jack Boone, last year's runner-up.
Brentwood High 10th-grader Gabe Hamilton, regional champ at 135, and 215-pounder Nick Coffey also fell one match short of the finals.

Hamilton ran into last year's 130-pound state champion Marvin Lopez, dropping a 9-3 decision.
Coffey, a football standout, suffered a technical fall against last year's runner-up, Bradley Central senior Tucker Bolton.
In the Division II semifinals, Mason (215) recorded a 34-second pin of Father Ryan junior Rickey Fisher, runner-up in the division last season. Mason, third at 189 last season, now will challenge Baylor senior John Mackey, who won the heavyweight title last year and was second at 215 the year before.
Maloney (119) had pins in the first two rounds, then won his semifinal 11-4 over Pierce Olson of BGA. Maloney, sixth last year in the weight class, will take on last year's 103 state champ, Baylor sophomore Brandon Brunner, in the finals.
BA senior Carlos Calloway (130), third at 112 last year, and senior Zeno Dupree (140), third in the same weight class last year, also made the semifinals before losing. Both will earn a medal in third-sixth place.
Calloway dropped a 10-4 decision to Father Ryan's Cole Moseley, while Dupree was pinned by defending 140-pound champ Stuart Doster of Baylor.
Ravenwood's Kuenhold will medal, too
Brentwood's Coffey recorded a major decision in his morning quarterfinal victory, 14-5 over Rossview senior Tyler Todd. The Bruins' Hamilton earned a 13-2 major decision against Science Hill senior Javier Tapia.
Ravenwood's Freeman, third place at 112 as a freshman, scored a 12-4 decision over Arlington senior Chandler Duncan in Friday morning's quarterfinals.
The Raptors' other quarterfinalist, heavyweight Dylan Yeager, was pinned by Riverdale junior Alex Woods and forfeited his fourth-round consolation Friday night. Senior captain Harrison Hawthorne (215), forced by injury to forfeit Thursday in the Round of 16, had to drop out of consolations.
In Friday's consolation action, Ravenwood juniors Kyle Kuehnhold (112) won four matches to earn a medal and move into Saturday's consolation semifinals. Kuehnhold had three major decisions and a pin.
Grant Jones (152) and Jonathan Mabry (160) won three consolation matches apiece Friday but lost one round short of winning a medal. Jones pinned his first two opponents of the day, then eked out a 1-0 victory over Blackman freshman Jay Patton. Mabry had a pin and two decisions.
Raptors senior Michael Gray won two decisions in Friday consolations before his fourth-round elimination. RHS senior Cody Stewart (189) won by pin in his consolation second-round match and sophomore Tanner Reynolds (135) got a decision, but both dropped third-rounders.
Brentwood's Powell Newbern (130) won a major decision in the second round of consolations, over Northwest junior Jeff Baker. But Newbern lost his next match to 2009 state medalist Grayson Mullin of Notre Dame.
Two BA eighth-graders will win medals
In Division II, five other Brentwood Academy wrestlers guaranteed themselves at least third-sixth place -- including two eighth-graders, Christian DiLucchio (112) and Justin Becci (103).
BA junior Seth Sirgo (125) won his opener before falling in the quarterfinals, then pinned two opponents to land at least a third-sixth place medal. His consolation semifinal will be against MBA's Matthew Davidson.
Mr. Football finalist Woody Baron (285), a junior, also won his Round of 16 opener and then won by pin and major decision in his two rounds of consolations. Baron defeated his next opponent, Christian Brothers senior Lou Posey, for fifth place in the heavyweight class last season.
Eagles senior Jack Wilson (135) had a second-round pin and a third-round major decision to also make the consolation semis. He'll battle three-time medalist Daniel Bellett, an MBA junior.
Becci won three losers' bracket matches and will face semifinal loser Cody Frazier, a Father Ryan sophomore.
DiLucchio won in the opening Round of 16 and his first consolation match by pin. He advanced by forfeit to the consolation semifinals, against Irish 10th-grader, Collin McNally.
BA junior Connor Stone (171) won his opener in the Round of 16 and a second-round consolation, but missed out on making the medal round. Senior Isaac Ellison (152) and junior Towler McClellan (160) opened with first-round victories in the championship round, but suffered double-elimination in their next two bouts.
